April 9, 2025
Dear Friends,
We have received questions from many of you regarding the recent series of global tariff announcements made by the White House. We share your concerns and would like to address the following points to help you navigate the current situation. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any further questions. We are busy at work preparing for auctions in the coming months, including our next premier sale. We remain committed to bringing you rare and fascinating coins from around the world.
• These tariffs are imposed based on the country of manufacture (where the coin was minted), not the origin of the shipment.
• As of April 9, 2025, there is a blanket 10% tariff on most coins and collectible items originating from almost all countries.
• An additional tariff on goods from select countries was previously announced but is now suspended for 90 days beginning April 9, 2025, except for China (including Hong Kong).
• Coins from Canada and Mexico are, at the time of writing, exempt from the 10% tariff and are instead governed by the USMCA agreement of 2020. Eligible goods from these two countries are exempt from import duty.
• Goods valued under $800 (per package) are currently still exempt from import duty (per the de minimis exemption), except for coins made in China and Hong Kong.
• The U.S. tariffs do not affect our ability to sell coins to buyers in other countries. As always, the laws in the destination country will determine any import duties that may apply upon arrival.
• Please contact us with any questions about shipping consignments from abroad or to check the potential duty (and exemptions) on a consignment before shipping.
We are closely monitoring these recent developments and will send out additional updates in the future as the situation progresses.
